Game No.2 - Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
Game No.2 - Breaking Up [Is Hard To Do] (Weapons of war from the Game of Love)
©1997 by Joan Zalenski Revised 1998
This is the second part of the series in the games people play, (the Game of Love, the Game of Life). It is the next step for the same two players from Game No. 1 “LET’S MOVE IN TOGETHER” but the board is now open to a host of new additional players. This is a game people would not necessarily choose to participate in, but often find themselves compelled to play. It is a lethal, dangerous game where opponents can and often do hurt each other in their quest to prevail in the division of property (all’s fair in love and war).
Play progresses as each side assembles its regiments of special forces, armies and artillery. The object is to retrieve as many trophies from the Spoils Channel (what must be divided, given up, retained) but to avoid getting stuck with encumbrances from the Moat of Plunder (cause and effect markers of the places they have fallen).
Moves are rewarded or penalized by the acquisition of a “prize” from the Spoils Channel or the Moat of Plunder. Play can continue indefinitely and often progresses to Game No. 3 “SCREW YOU.” It is usually impossible to determine who wins.
Mixed media-steel, wood, glass;
17.5” x 17.5” x 10” c.1997
Tabletop game sculpture; maquette for life-size piece.
